Welcome to the second discussion in our Homeschool Stories Collection! Today we meet an elementary principal who left her career in education to become a homeschooling mom.
If you’re new here, let me introduce my young Homeschool Stories Collection to you. I am gathering these stories to help us gain perspective, inspiration, and encouragement from homeschooling families of all different backgrounds. My hope is that these stories will be like talking with a friend: they’ll be relatable, give us new insight and ideas, and renew our strength for our own homeschooling journeys.
Homeschool Stories #2
Today we welcome Gabi Haberer, a classically trained musician and education professional, who left the public school system at the height of her career to homeschool her own kids.
Gabi has worked as a bilingual teacher, a curriculum specialist, and an elementary principal. In fact, she intended to one day work as a superintendent. But when her son came along, she decided to stay home with him and eventually began homeschooling.
Now things look different for this former elementary principal. Gabi currently shares her experience as a musician and educator with the homeschooling community. She speaks on the amazing benefits of music education at homeschool conferences, hosts a podcast on music, motherhood, and homeschooling, and provides affordable music education for homeschooling families through her service, The Homeschool Music Collective.
The views expressed in Homeschool Stories do not necessarily reflect the views of Woven Homeschool. We welcome stories from a variety of perspectives, encourage listeners to reflect thoughtfully, and engage in discussion with a generous and kind spirit.
In this episode, Gabi and I talk about:
- Gabi’s education career
- What led to her disenchantment with the public school system
- How her views on education changed over her years of homeschooling
- Gabi’s music education service for homeschoolers
